April 13, 2007
Frankfort, KY – Michelle Clark-Heard, who in two seasons restored the Kentucky State University women’s basketball program, has resigned as head women’s basketball coach, to accept an assistant coaching position at the University of Louisville. Coach Heard, who inherited a 1-26 team, guided the Thorobrettes to a 5-22 (4-15, SIAC) record in her first season and then led the Thorobrettes to a remarkable 19-8 (14-6, SIAC) finish in 2006-2007.

Coach Heard came to Kentucky State University in June 2005 from the University of Cincinnati, where she was an assistant coach for three seasons.
“Words cannot express the way that I am feeling right now; making the decision to leave Kentucky State University for a position on the University of Louisville Women's Basketball Staff. This has been one of the toughest decisions in my life,” said Coach Heard... “Kentucky State University, Dr. Mary Sias and Derita Ratcliffe gave me a chance to run the Women's Basketball Program, and I will never forget the Thorobred Family”, Coach Heard added. “To the players and the parents who believed in the staff and our vision, you will never be forgotten, and I know that Ms. Ratcliffe will find another coach who will help guide these wonderful young ladies to a championship one day! Although I will not be here on campus or on the sideline coaching, I will always remember everyone who was a part of this journey to help bring back the thrill of women's basketball here at Kentucky State.”
KSU Athletic Director, Derita Ratcliffe, says “Kentucky State University Women’s Basketball has been greatly enhanced by the presence of Michelle Clark-Heard. She has infused a wonderful sense of sportsmanship and excellence in our program and the young women who have been blessed to call her Coach for the last two seasons. It is a bittersweet departure for us all. I am happy for Coach Heard and wish her the best at the University of Louisville and thank her for all she has done during her tenure at KSU. She is loved here and will be missed. Onward and Upward!”
