Cherish, Leela James and Young Dro to perform at Ford MEAC-SWAC Challenge

Hip Hop and R&B Artists Featured During Game Festivities Sept. 2

August 30, 2006

The Second Annual Ford MEAC-SWAC Challenge events will showcase several national recording artists, including Cherish, Leela James and Young Dro. The trio of talent will each perform as part of the 2006 Ford MEAC-SWAC Challenge, an annual HBCU football game to be held Saturday, Sept. 2 at Birmingham’s historic Legion Field. The game will feature MEAC Champion Hampton against SWAC Champion Grambling State.

James will perform the national anthem prior to kick off, while Young Dro (with the Hampton University marching band) and Cherish will perform at halftime and at the post-game tailgate party located at the West End Parking Lot at Legion Field.

Each year, the ESPN Regional Television (ERT) owned-and-operated event, pits a MEAC team against a SWAC member at a neutral site located within the footprint of one of the conferences.  Tickets are available through Ticketmaster outlets.  To charge tickets by phone, call 205.715.6000 or 800.277.1700.
