KSU Hires New Women’s Basketball Coach

Frankfort, KY – Stephanie Evans will be the new head women’s basketball coach at Kentucky State University. Evans, who played collegiate basketball at Bowie State University and coached three seasons at Virginia State University (2003-2006), will fill the vacancy left by the departure of Michelle Clark-Heard. Coach Heard, who resigned following the 2007 sseason to accept an assistant coaching position at the University of Louisville, compiled a 24-30 record in two seasons, 2005-2007. Her tenure will begin on July 1, 2007.

“I am very excited to be apart of the KSU athletic family” said Evans. “It is an awesome opportunity to come to a program that has shown success, and has the tools to go on and do bigger things”, Coach Evans adds. “With a talented group of young ladies and the continued support of the Athletic Department, Administration, and the foundation set by Coach Heard, I am looking forward to continued success as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach.”
Evans’ coaching experience also includes being head women’s basketball coach at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C for three seasons, 2000-2003, and assistant coach from 1998-2000. Evans coached two seasons as assistant women’s coach at Columbia Union College in 1997-1998.
Evans received both a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology in 1997 and Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology in 1994 from Bowie State University.
Coach Evans brings head coaching experience with her to the position as well experience dealing with young people in the classroom. While at Virginia State University, she also taught Psychology classes.
“She is a versatile professional” said Derita Ratcliffe, Athletics Director. “I believe that Stephanie will fit in well with our staff and the KSU community. She has the potential to serve the university in many ways and we are always looking for people with multiple skill sets.
