FAMU'S Carter tabbed for Hula Bowl staff

November 6, 2006

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Florida A&M head football coach Rubin Carter has been selected to coach in the Hula Bowl All-Star Game on January 14, 2007 at Aloha Stadium.

Carter, in his second season at FAMU, will work with the West All-Stars, most likely tutoring the defensive line.

It will be a return to familiar ground for Carter, who earned MVP honors here at the Hula Bowl in 1975 as a defensive lineman, following a stellar collegiate career at the University of Miami.

Carter went on to a fruitful career in the National Football League as a premiere nose tackle for the Denver Broncos from 1975 to 1987.

Prior to coming to FAMU a year ago, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native fashioned an 18-year coaching resume, which included stops on both the professional and collegiate levels.

Last season, Carter led FAMU to a 6-5 finish overall, impressive considering that he was appointed to the position in mid-July of 2005.

This year's team has two games remaining with a chance to better their win total of a year ago, with a mathematical chance to grab a share of the conference title.

The Rattlers (6-3, 4-2 in MEAC) are prepping for their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown with defending league champion Hampton University (-1, 6-1) in Bragg Stadium Saturday evening. Kickoff will be 6:00 p.m.
