Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers are 2006 SWAC Volleyball Champions

Two days of competitive volleyball action concluded Saturday afternoon as the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M were crowned the Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball champions following a spirited five-set match with the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes.
The Lady Panthers opened the match with 30-17 win which seemed to set the pace of the match. Both teams kept the action fast-paced and filled with competitive rallies. The second game saw Mississippi Valley State fight back and claim a 32-30 game win. With the match tied at 1-1, Mississippi Valley went ahead 30-21 and seemed to be in control.
The fourth game went back and fourth until the Lady Panthers fought to a four-point lead and held the game together winning 30-27.
In the fifth and deciding game, Prairie View jumped out 10-2 quickly and finished off the victory with a 15-8 decision.
For Prairie View, Ashley Campbell paced the way with 22 kills and two service aces. Tacho Richard had 10 kills, 12 digs and three aces while Tamika Newman finished with 19 kills and nine digs.
For Mississippi Valley State, Shatara Baydak tallied 21 kills and six digs while Ashley Robinson totaled 14 kills and two blocks.
