September 7, 2006
ATLANTA, GA - Clark Atlanta University has
announced the promotion of Assistant Volleyball
Coach Ricardo Wheatley to head coach. The decision
was made after former Head Coach Tamica Jones
relinquished her position to take on additional
duties as senior women’s administrator
and compliance coordinator. Wheatley has served
as CAU assistant volleyball coach for two years.

“The decision was made within the best
interest of the program. The ladies have been
competitive for years and we value consistency
as well as quality in our athletic programs.
Coach Wheatley has an extensive amount of knowledge
and experience in the sport. He will keep a
successful program moving in the right direction,” said
CAU Director of Athletics Bernda Edmond-Square.
“I look forward to continuing the team’s
overall success. I want to thank Mrs. Edmond-Square
and Coach Tamica Jones for the opportunity.
I want to incorporate values while fostering
an environment for players to grow and feel
better about themselves, their lives, and their
education,” Coach Wheatley said.
Coach Wheatley, a native of the British Virgin
Islands, earned a degree in history from Oakwood
College in 2000. Before coming to CAU, Wheatley
began his coaching career as head coach of
the Turbulence Men’s Volleyball Team
in the British Virgin Islands Power League.
Wheatley played on the British Islands National
Team in 1995, 2001, 2003, and 2004.
