The SWAC Page Network changes name
September 13, 2007
Flower Mound, TX – The website once called The SWAC Page Network and popularly known by most as TSPN, previously located on the Web at www.SWACpage.com, is now called TSPNsports.com - a wholly owned subsidiary of Rashad Interactive, LLC.
TSPNsports.com is currently one of the largest and most visited HBCU sports information and fan sites on the Internet generating over 1.3 million page views per month. Since August 1997 the website has been the primary source for HBCU sports information featuring the 10 schools of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). However, after the site officially changed its name to TSPNsports.com on August 28, 2007, its coverage extended beyond the SWAC to include all athletic conferences and schools under the HBCU sports umbrella.
“We realized that if we wanted to continue our growth we had to extend our dedicated SWAC coverage to include the MEAC, CIAA, SIAC and other independent HBCU athletic programs,” said Kenn Rashad, TSPNsports.com Founder and Executive Editor. “The transition to provide coverage on those other programs is already underway, but we will continue to feature the SWAC and its member schools in greater detail.”
The site’s new “Web 2.0” design utilizes a powerful multimedia platform and advanced content management system which rival those used by many major online daily publications. Visitors are provided with enhanced interactive upgrades featuring RSS feeds, online polling, related content applications and visitor commentary. “When we began development on the new site it was our intent to make it one of a kind,” Rashad said. “We wanted to take full advantage of all the Web 2.0 technology applications available.”
With all of the new improvements, the site’s most popular feature remains the fan forum; which has become a premier online social network for HBCU sports fans and alumni. The site also publishes the TSPNsports.com/Cavil’s Classic Cuts HBCU Top 10 sports polls. A series of college football and basketball polls dedicated to HBCU athletics.
While providing sports information and commentary to site visitors is first and foremost, Rashad acknowledges there was a need to incorporate additional services and product offerings. “With growth being the goal for the site we were able to create partnerships with select vendors. We now offer officially licensed HBCU sports apparel, premium ticket services for sporting events and concerts and have expanded our online travel services. We hope to eventually become a one stop shop for all things related to black college sports.”
