Shaw University Athletics announces personnel appointments

Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University Department of Athletics has announced new appointments in the department for Terry Spicer and Kimberly Miller.

Spicer has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Media & Athletic Relations/Senior Woman Administrator.  Miller becomes Assistant Director of Athletics & Head Women’s Softball Coach.  Both bring extensive administrative and management experiences to their expanded positions.

Spicer served as Director of Sports Media and Athletic Relations since 2006, acting as liaison to the media for athletic response and initiatives while promoting a positive and increased image of Shaw University Athletics.  The 1982 graduate of North Carolina State University was actively involved in the creation of the current Shaw Bears logo in addition to supervising the sports information office.

Spicer was the athletic liaison to all community and civic organizations.  She developed and broadened community relations programs and initiatives that resulted in new partnerships and sponsorship opportunities for athletic programming.  She was liaison to athletic supported organizations of the University including the Booster Club, Hall of Fame Committee and the National Alumni Association.  With a longstanding career in public relations and marketing, she also held responsibility for athletic event management.

Miller also joined the Shaw staff in 2006 after obtaining a Masters of Science degree in Sports Studies from High Point University.  The 2001 graduate of Winston-Salem State has served as Administrative Assistant to the Director of Athletics concentrating on administration and event management.

She has worked and interned at several athletic organizations including American University, Ohio University, Bethune-Cookman College, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the Charlotte Bobcats.

As an undergraduate at WSSU, Miller participated in women’s softball for 2 years. She currently competes in the “B” Class of USSSA where she is an infielder for the Bull City Heat women’s softball team. In 2004, she was a member of the Carolina Strokers USSSA “C” Class World Championship team coached by former Shaw University baseball team member Jimmy Rivers.
