Cheyney Athletics announces Two New Staff Additions

CHEYNEY, PA — Cheyney University of Pennsylvania’s Athletic Department has recently hired Constancia (Connie) Hayes and Lydia Harsley. Ms. Hayes will serve as an Assistant Athletic Director/Compliance and Ms. Harsley as Assistant Athletic Director for Academics and Student Athlete Support Services.
Hayes comes to Cheyney from Delaware State where she served as Senior Woman Administrator. She brings over 15 years experience working in athletics.

Harsley formerly worked at Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA where she served as Compliance Director/SAAC Advisor/NCAA Champs Life Skills Coordinator for the past year and a half.
While at DSU, Hayes was responsible for the supervision and reorganization of the Department of Sports Medicine, Strength, Conditioning and Speed, Cheerleading and Athletic Equipment. She also planned and implemented the Student Athlete Advisory Council and Life Skills programs for four years.
Before getting involved in administration, Hayes was a track and field coach. She was the head women’s track and field coach at Delaware State and after serving as Assistant Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach at St. John’s University in Queens, New York.
Ms. Hayes also brings experience as a clinical social worker, community team leader, psychotherapist and senior recreational therapist. She earned her Bachelor of Science from New York University and She currently resides in Dover, Delaware.
At Saint Paul's, Harsley monitored student-athlete’s progress while overseeing compliance with NCAA, CIAA and institutional policies, rules and regulations. She educated coaches, boosters and student-athletes on NCAA regulations, oversaw a scholarship budget of over one million dollars and prepared grant-in-aid contracts for all student-athletes.
Prior to her service at St. Paul’s she worked for the Richmond Sports Backers ensuring that the organization met its objective of “maximizing the community benefits of sports tourism while building a more vibrant community through sports.”
At Cheyney, Harsley will be responsible for community service projects, academic improvement plan, Athletic Director Honor Roll, Student Athlete Handbook, student-athlete recognition, Open House, Orientation, CHAMPS Life Skills, President’s Breakfast of Champions and all University and community engagement.
She earned a Bachelor of Science as well as a Master of Science in Sports Management from Virginia State University and currently resides in Downingtown, Pennsylvania.
