Lincoln Blue Tigers Honored as 2009 Division II Women’s Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year
July 9, 2009
NEW ORLEANS - The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Wednesday that Lincoln University of Missouri was chosen as the 2009 Indoor Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year and the 2009 Outdoor Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year.
Lincoln swept the NCAA Division II women’s indoor and outdoor track and field team championships this year. At the 2009 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in March, the Blue Tigers scored a total of 100.50 points to win the team competition. It was a dominant team effort, as the Blue Tigers’ point total more than doubled the score of the second-place team finisher. The title is Lincoln’s third women’s team title in indoor track and field.
Lincoln completed their track and field sweep with the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and field women’s team title in May. This time, the Blue Tigers won a tight team battle over host Angelo State University by a margin of three points. The title marked Lincoln’s sixth women’s outdoor track and field team title in school history.
Lincoln’s women have been equally successful in the classroom, as they boast a 3.132 team cumulative GPA.
Joining Lincoln on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team list were 16 other Division II programs that finished in the top 25 at the Division II Indoor National meet and 12 other teams that finished in the top 25 at the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
