ATLANTA, GA.‑ Morehouse College Athletics Director Andre Pattillo and Head Football Coach Anthony' "AJ" Jones have announced the Maroon Tigers 2001 football schedule. The 11-game slate includes four home games at Burwell T. Harvey Stadium, two football classic and four contests against teams trom outside the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), Pattilllo said.
"We are looking forward to a very exciting football season," Pattillo said. "The Morehouse football family came very close to winning it all last year. Hopefully, the Maroon Tigers can take another step towards the SIAC championship in 2001."
Morehouse will kickoff the season on the road against Fort Valley State University on August 25th at 7:00 p.m. in Grifftn, Georgia. From that point, the team will spend the next three weekends on thc road beginning with Clark Atlanta University on September 3rd in the Labor Day Classic at 1:30 p.m. in the Ceorgia Dome. Then on September 8th, the team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to take on the Stillman College Tigers at 1:30 p.m. (CST), this will be the first meeting between the teams.
On September 15th, the Maroon Tigers will head to Elizabeth City, North Carolina to take on Elizabeth City State University (CIAA) at 1:30 p.m. in Roebuck Stadium. Then on September 22nd Morehouse will play their first home game of the season against the visiting Tigers from Benedict College (EIAC) at 1:30 p.m. at B. T. Harvey Stadium. On the following weekend, the team will have its only open weekend of the 2001 season.
The Maroon Tigers will travel to Bowie, Maryland, to face the Bulldogs of Bowie State University (CIAA) on October 6th at 1:00 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. Beforc meeting the 2000 National Black College Football Champions Tuskegee University in Columbus, Georgia in the 66th Annual Tuskegee ‑ Morehouse Football Classic. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. On October 20th, the team will travel to Jackson, Tennessee, to face the fire of the Lane College Dragons at 1:30 p.m. (CST).
Morehouse College will celebrate Homecoming '01 against the Thorobreds of Kentucky State University on October 27th at 2:00 p.m., before traveling to Albany, Georgia to face the "mighty" Golden Rams of Albany State University at 1:00 p.m. at Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium on November 3rd .
The Morehouse College Maroon Tigers football team will finish its regular season on November 10th when the Miles College Bears invade B. T. Harvey Stadium for a 1:30 p.m. battle.
