Delaware State seeks Hall of Fame nomineesJuly 18, 2001Dover, DE --- Delaware State University is seeking nominations of individuals to be considered for induction into the university's Athletics Hall of Fame. Those eligible for consideration by the DSU Athletics Hall of Fame Committee shall be any male or female who has contributed to the university's athletics heritage. Nominees must be a graduate of Delaware State University, be of high moral character, be outstanding in athletics participation at Delaware State, and be distinguished in professional life. Nominations for the DSU Athletics Hall of Fame shall be made by anyone who forwards in writing the name of the nominee. The nomination should include a complete description of the nominee's background and accomplishments. Candidates may be considered who participated in intercollegiate athletics at Delaware State through 1991. Nominations for the Delaware State University Athletics Hall of Fame should be submitted to: Delaware State University, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, 1200 N. duPont Hwy. Dover, DE 19901-2277. Nominations will be accepted until September 1, 2001. The new DSU Athletics Hall of Fame inductees will be honored November 16, 2001 during a banquet at the university's Martin Luther King Student Center. The inductees will also be recognized at halftime of Delaware State's home football finale against Howard the following day. The Delaware State Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1985, when 80 men and 18 women who played and coached from 1912-1949 were inducted. The following year, 43 men and four women who competed in the 1950s were honored. After an 11-year break, the Hall of Fame ceremonies resumed in 1997 with the induction of seven former Hornet athletics greats. A total of 18 members were enshrined the past three years.
