| Norfolk State releases men's baketball scheduleJuly 21, 2001Norfolk State University has announced one of its toughest non-conference slates in recent history as part of its 2001-2002 men's basketball schedule. The Spartans finished last season with a 12-17 record overall and 11-7 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. "The schedule is tough, but this is the type of schedule that teams in our conference need to play if they want to have a shot at post-season play", said third year head coach Wil Jones. The Spartans have scheduled road games at Hawaii University in the Nike Tip-Off Tournament, University of Maryland, San Diego State, Tulane, and the University of New Orleans. The Spartans will also take part in the Minnesota Winter Jam to be held in Minneapolis Minnesota, which features the MEAC vs. SWAC. NSU and Morgan State will represent the MEAC and Texas Southern and Alcorn State will represent the SWAC. The Spartans kick off their 2001-2002 season with an exhibition game against inter-state rival Virginia State on November 5, 2001.
