WSSU Names Stitt Interim Men's Basketball CoachJune 20, 2001WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Philip Stitt, men's assistant head basketballcoach, for the past three years, has been named Winston-Salem StateUniversity Interim Head Men's Basketball Coach.
Stitt will step into the position Rick Duckett, former WSSUhead basketball coach, vacated to accept a position as an assistant coach atthe University of South Carolina, a NCAA Division I school. Stitt, who was charged with recruiting efforts for theprogram, has been instrumental with bringing key recruits to the WSSU.During his time at WSSU he helped the Rams post a 74-18 overall record andbrought back-to-back CIAA Championships to the University in 1999 & 2000.The men's program has received berths to the NCAA Division II South AtlanticRegional Tournament for the past three years. "We're grateful for the opportunity to continue the success of theprogram, as it has been the past three seasons," said Stitt. "We appreciateall of the support that the Chancellor and the university has given us andhappy to know that people have that much faith in our program."
