Lady Falcons defend title with 80 point day

May 26, 2001

Saint Augustine's College has returned to the throne in Division II Track and Field by sweeping both the men's and women's championships at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Edwardsville, IL.

NCAA D2 Track LogoThe Lady Falcons exploded for 80 points on the final day to successfully defend their title - their third in the last five years. The Falcon men captured their ninth championship in 13 years, outpointing second-place Abilene Christian, 80-59.

Tim Rusan was the top performer for the St. Aug men contributing 25 points. He won both the triple jump and long jump and ran the third leg on the fourth place 4X100 relay team. St. Aug also won the 1600 meter relay. The Falcons scored half of their 80 points in two field events thanks to a 1-2-5 finish in the triple jump and 1-4-6 placement in the long jump. They finished no lower than fourth in five events on Saturday including second-place finishes by Marquis Davis in both the 100M and 200M dash.

Leading the Lady Falcon performance was Kia Davis. She finished first in the 100M hurdles and 200M dash in addition to running the third leg on the winning 400M relay team. She also ran the first leg on the second-place 4X400M Relay team.
