SIAC Announces 2000 All-Conference Football Team

Atlanta, GA - Morehouse College coach Anthony Jones was picked byhis peers and seconded by the league's sports information directors as their choice for the Coach of the Year in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). Jones received all but two of the possible 16 votes. He leads a contingent of five Maroon Tigers selected First Team All-SIAC.

Junior running back, Alvon Brown of Kentucky State, was the top choice for three of the five superlative awards. He got the nod as George H. Hobson Offensive Back of the Year, SIAC Offensive Player of the Year and SIAC Player of the Year. Brown, the top rusher in the league this year with 1,578 yards on 308 rushing attempts and 20 touchdowns, repeats as Player of the Year and George H. Hobson Offensive Back.

Tuskegee University senior offensive lineman, Bennitte Waddell was picked as the W.s. M. Banks Lineman of the Year and Kelvin Powell, also of Tuskegee, repeated as Defensive Player of the Year. Waddell was names SIAC Player of the Week on several occasions during the regular season. Powell recorded 114 total tackles (66 solo hits) and two quarterback sacks during the season.
