Illegal Vendors to be target of SWAC Officials at Football Championship Game

November 29, 2000

BIRMINGHAM -- Southwestern Athletic Conference officials have issued a warning to vendors in town for the 2000 HealthSouth SWAC Championship that the sale of illegal and unauthorized merchandise bearing the insignia of the conference, its member universities and the football championship game will result in immediate legal action.

At the same time, fans are advised to purchase merchandise at or around Legion Field only from authorized vendors, namely those wearing a credential marked "Official Vendor of the SWAC." Any vendors selling merchandise who aren't wearing such a credential haven't been approved by the conference to sell items at the game and, when caught, those vendors will have their merchandise confiscated by legal authorities and they'll face court action.

The conference has enacted this ordinance because of huge amounts of unofficial SWAC merchandise that was sold at last year's game. The league hopes this action will ensure that fans purchasing merchandise will get quality products and at fair prices.

Official vendors will be participating in the African-American Marketplace at Legion Field on game day. The marketplace will open at 11 a.m.
