SIAC Honors Fall Sports Participants

October 26, 2000

Albany, GA - The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) took a break from competition at the Annual Fall Sports Championships to honor its' athletes with a Fall Sports Honors Banquet in the Albany State University Dining Hall. Student athletes from the member institutions volleyball and cross country teams were on hand for the activity.

Members of the leagues' volleyball team were presented with All-Conference honors as well as several special awards categories. Cross country All-Conference awards will be presented tomorrow after the completion of the SIAC Cross Country Championship.

The top three vote-getters for volleyball All-SIAC honors went to Shemekia Williams of Fort Valley State University, Christian Blackman of Albany State University and Germalette Dyson of Paine College. The other seven athletes picked to the ten-member team include: Taisha Bomar -Tuskegee; Sharlene Fuller -Fort Valley; Paula Guyton -LeMoyne Owen; Sheri Chambers - Paine; Lelecia Ishman -Miles; Erica Howell -Kentucky State and Sherita Terrell - Miles.

Fort Valley's Shemekia Williams was the top choice for SIAC Player of the Year while teammate Sharlene Fuller got the nod as the league's Defensive Player of the Year. Setter of the Year honors went to Sheri Chambers of Paine College. Coach Nedra Brown of LeMoyne Owen was the favorite for SIAC Coach of the Year honors.

LeMoyne Owen will meet Clark Atlanta and Paine College will entertain Kentucky State at 9:00 AM Thursday. Albany State and Fort Valley will tip off at 11:00 AM.
