
Baltimore, MD -- The North All-Stars used a balanced attack with five players scoring in double figures to take a 97-83 victory over the South All-Stars in the Fourth Annual Black College All-Star Basketball Classic.
Game MVP Antwain Smith (St. Paul's) led his teammates with 13 points and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Fred Warrick (Coppin St.) added 12 points. Kevin George (Florida A&M) also achieved a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards. Jeffrey McCall (Va. State) had 11 points and William Davis (Va. Union) had 10.
The North Team, comprised of players from the CIAA and MEAC was coached by on of the NBA's 50 All-Time Greatest Players Earl "The Pearl" Monroe. Former Boston Celtic and NBA Hall-of-Famer Sam Jones coached the South Team which included players from the SIAC and SWAC.
Cory Dumphard (Kentucky St.) led the South team with 13 points and 7 rebounds. He was seven for eight from the free throw line.
In the women's game, Grambling's Felicia James scored a career high 27 points to lead the South team to a 71-65 win over a much taller North squad. James had several highlight film breakaways to direct the come-from-behind victory.
The South trailed at halftime 38-31 in a game that featured 27 blocked shots.
Winston-Salem State's Erica Leggett let the North team with 13 points, highlighted by three straight three-point baskets. Leggett was three for four from beyond the arc.
Ruthie Bolton-Holifield of the WNBA Sacramento Monarchs coached the North Team while Penny Moore a member of the WNBA Washington Mystics was the coach of the South Team.
