
Hampton's Carter and PVAM's Nelson Earn All-America Honors at D1 Nationals

Hampton University's James Carter and Prairie View A&M's Ronald Nelson earned All-American honors at the 1999 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 2-5, at Boise State University in Boise, ID. Carter finished third in the 400M hurdle finals while Nelson captured eighth spot in the high jump.
HBCU women's teams were shut out of the scoring in the championship.

Carter was the top HBCU performer at the meet. He won his preliminary race on Wednesday with a time of 50.54. In Friday's final, he finished third with a time of 49.45. Baylor's Bayano Kamani won the event at 48.68.
Nelson was part of a group of several jumpers who cleared 7 feet. His best jump was 7' 3" which earned him eighth place based on fewer misses at lower heights. Norfolk State's Adrian Shears finished eleventh overall with a best height of 7' 1 3/4".
