coach Darcel Estep to become the fifth women's basketball coach in the 25 year history of the Red Storm program.

"We are elated to have a veteran coach like Darcel. She brings a fresh, new approach to our program and we're confident she will lead us to success well into the next millennium," St. John's Director of Athletics, Edward J. Maneta, Jr., said.

Estep is familiar with the Big East Conference having served as the top assistant at Villanova University from 1991 to 1996 under head coach Harry Perretta.

She had served as a coach at the 1994 Olympic Festival and worked as on-court teaching coach for the WNBA's Washington franchise, last season.

Estep leaves Morgan State after a three year tenure where she led the Lady Bears to a 35-49 record and two semifinal appearances in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament. The Lady Bears were 9-15 last year and finished seventh in the nation in defense allowing just 58.0 points per game.
