DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University announced its 1999 football schedule Thursday (March 11), and the 10-game slate includes four home games, three classics, and a Homecoming match-up for the ages.

Rudy Abrams will take the sideline for the first time as NCCU's head coach on Sunday, Sept. 5 at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh for the annual "Aggie-Eagle Classic" against North Carolina A&T State. The Eagles then return to a renovated O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium to host Gardner-Webb on Sept. 11, in the first game held on campus since Nov. 8, 1997. The 7 p.m. kickoff will also mark the first home night game since Oct. 7, 1995.

After a road trip to Petersburg, VA to challenge Virginia State, NCCU comes home on Sept. 25 to face Benedict College for the first time since 1959.

On Oct. 2, NCCU travels to Rocky Mount, NC to face Elizabeth City State in the "Down East Classic." The Eagles host Fayetteville State on Oct. 9, before traveling to Winston-Salem State on Oct. 16 for the second annual "Midway Classic." NCCU then heads to Maryland to play Bowie State on Oct. 23.

On Oct. 30, a homecoming game for the ages will be contested in Durham between the Eagles of NCCU and the Blue Bears of Livingstone College. Abrams, who left his head coaching job at Livingstone to come to NCCU, will be battling his alma mater for the first time as a head coach. In addition, Abrams' replacement at Livingstone, Greg Richardson, is an NCCU graduate and a former Blue Bear defensive coordinator under Abrams from 1994-96. Between the lines, the Eagles have lost their last four homecoming contests, including 1995 and 1997 defeats to Livingstone. The Blue Bears will have something to prove, however, after suffering a 13-12 loss to NCCU on Livingstone's homecoming last year.

NCCU wraps-up its schedule against Johnson C. Smith on Nov. 6 in Charlotte, NC.
