Tuskegee, AL - Tuskegee University Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Rick Comegy released the 1999 Golden Tiger Football Schedule on Tuesday, March 30. The 11-game slate includes four home games at Cleve Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium, two classics, and five other road contests. There are two 1AA opponents on the schedule, in state rivals Alabama A&M and Alabama State.
The Golden Tigers will open the season at home on September 4 against the Tigers of Benedict and will play five road games before returning to Abbott Stadium on October 23 to tangle with the Wildcats of Fort Valley State. The five road games include stops at Atlanta, Ga. on September 11 against the Wolverines of Morris Brown, September 18 against Miles in Birmingham and October 2 against the Thorobreds of Kentucky State in Frankfort, Ky. TU will face the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse in the 64th Annual Rivertown Football Classic in Columbus, Ga. on October 9 and will end the five-game road stint on October 16 when they meet the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M in Huntsville.
TU will celebrate its 75th Annual Homecoming when the Panthers of Clark Atlanta come calling on October 30. After a visit to Jackson, Tennessee on November 6 to oppose the Dragons of Lane, the Golden Tigers will return home the next week for their last home game against the Tigers of Savannah State and Parents’ Weekend will be observed.
The Tuskegee Golden Tigers will finish the ’99 season at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl when they meet arch-rival Alabama State in the 76th Annual Turkey Day Football Classic, the nation’s oldest historically black football classic.
Tuskegee is coming off a 10-2 season in which they won the SIAC championship and defeated Livingstone College in the Pioneer Bowl in Atlanta, 23-9. The 510 Golden Tiger victories, dating back to 1894, are the most for any historically black institution.
