Atlanta, GA - Commissioner Wallace Jackson has announced theselection of the 1999 edition of the Southern Intercollegiate AthleticConference (SIAC) All-Conference Football Team. For the first time in along time, the SIAC Sports Information Directors (SIDs) were
instrumental in selecting the team after league's football coachesdecided to forgo the task in favor of the SIDs.
Fort Valley State University dominated the both the first and secondteams with ten (10) Wildcat players on the first team offense and defenseand five (5) on the second team. The Kentucky State Thorobreds added nine(9) players to the first team.
The top two runningbacks, Michael Scott of Tuskegee and Alvon Brownof Kentucky State, along with Fort Valley's wide receiver Kent Schoolfieldwere the top three vote-getters.
The superlative awards winners were Jerry Jackson of Fort Valley whogot the nod as the W.S.M. Banks Lineman of the Year.
The George H. Hobson Offensive Back of the Year award went to AlvonBrown of Kentucky State University. Tuskegee's Michael Scott was the recipientof the SIAC Offensive Player of the Year award. Kevin Powell, also of TuskegeeUniversity, was the choice for Defensive Player of the Year. The SIDs choicefor Player of the Year was Alvon Brown of Kentucky State University. FortValley's head coach, Kent Schoolfield, Sr. was the unanimous choice forSIAC Coach Of the Year.
The SIAC family will gather on January 16, 2000 and pay tribute to thosePlayers selected for honors.
