Kevin Manns departs Montgomery for Baton Rouge

MONTGOMERY, ALA. ? Alabama State University sports information director, Kevin Manns, has resigned to become the new SID at Southern University and A&M College, in Baton Rouge, La. At Southern, Manns will rejoin the football coaching staff that he did sports information for at Winston-Salem State University.

"I chose Southern, because it is the best situation for me, and for Southern. I am really looking forward to getting to Baton Rouge and pushing the Jaguars athletic programs into uncharted territories in terms of sports information. Southern University to me is HBCU football and HBCU sports, and I am just elated to have the opportunity to use my skills there", says Manns.

"I am very proud of some of the things that I was able to help Alabama State accomplish. Helping to move them in the right direction in terms of their web page, media guides and just some stability in the sports information office."

Kevin Manns has earned numerous awards and citations, and has worked in the 1993 & 1996 Southeast Region, NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, as media assistant, and through Onnidan, he worked the 1995 ACC Women's Tournament doing computer stats.

He was chosen as the 1995 CIAA Sports Information Director of the Year and the 1997 Birmingham Grid Forecasters "Excel" Award for Sports Information. Since joining the SWAC Conference, he has been runner-up two-consecutive years for the Bennie Thomas SID of the Year Award.

Manns is a 1986 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV, where he was a three year letterman and two year starter on the Eagle football team. He continued his collegiate football play at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. He earned his bachelor's degree in Accounting in June of 1990. The single Manns, is a member of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association) and is Vice-President of BCSIDA, Black College Sports Information Directors Association and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.

"There are some great coaches and people at ASU, and I have no doubt that they will be successful in their future endeavors," Manns concluded.
