Ready had served as assistant softball coach last year but will relinquish those duties. She will continue as head volleyball coach.
"I wanted to utilize her talents where theyŐre best-suited, and I think basketball, along with volleyball, is where that is," said Mitchell. "She has a great deal of talent and drive, and she works very hard. In a very short time, she has gotten the volleyball program headed in the right direction."
"She's very detail-oriented and one of the most organized people I've had the pleasure to work with. I think this will benefit our staff and be a good opportunity to give her some experience that will benefit her as well."
Ready, 23-years-old and one of the youngest Division I head volleyball coaches in the country, joins a staff which includes longtime assistant Derek Brown and recent hire Jimmy DuBose.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity," said Ready. "It will be very hectic in October and November juggling volleyball and basketball, and there will be a lot of long nights, but I think of it as being challenging."
"As long as my plate doesn't have too much on it, I like for it to be full."
Ready was a two-sport star at Coppin, lettering in both basketball and volleyball.
On the hardwood she averaged 6.9 points and 4.1 rebounds over her four-year career (1993-97) and currently ranks among the all-time top 10 in four categories at Coppin - steals (2nd), assists (4th), points (8th) and rebounds (10th).
Ready graduated cum laude from Coppin State with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1998.She was named head volleyball coach less than two weeks prior to the start of the 1998 season, during which the Lady Eagles snapped a 129-match losing streak.
