| Howard women's tennis team qualifies for academic awardJuly 13, 2000Howard University's women's tennis team has qualified for the 2000 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic team. This award is given annually to teams that have a yearly grade point average of 3.2 orabove on a 4.0 scale. Individually Lamia Alanii (3.71), Gia Landry (4.0) and Ekaterina Okpala (3.71) have qualified as ITA Scholar Athlete All-Americans. The award is given annually to junior or senior varsity letter winners who have a grade point average of 3.5 or above, or are in the top 10 percent of their class. This marks the second straight year that Okpala, who graduatedmagna cum laude from the School of Business has earned Scholar Athlete All-America status.
