May 13, 2000

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Jackson State University Tigers are among 421 teams selected to participate in the 2000 NCAA men's golf championships on May 18-21. Thirty teams will advance from regional competition to the NCAA golf finals on May 31 - June 3, hosted by Auburn University.

The JSU Tigers, who received an automatic bid to the NCAA regionals after winning the 2000 SWAC championship, will represent the conference in the Central Region. JSU will be among 23 teams competing in the Southwest Texas State University-hosted meet at the Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Tex. Other schools competing in the Central Region are Northwestern University, Kent State University, University of Minnesota, University of Michigan, University of Toledo, Oklahoma State University, University of Kansas, University of Colorado, University of Tulsa, Baylor University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, University of North Texas, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Mississippi, Southeastern Louisiana University, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Coastal Carolina University and Oral Roberts University.

This will mark JSU's second appearance in an NCAA golf regional. In 1996, the Tigers made history by being the first team from an historically black university to qualify for and participate in an NCAA regional golf championship.
