| Morehouse picks alum as basketball coachJuly 17, 2000ATLANTA, GA.- Morehouse College has hired Grady L. Brewer, as it's eleventh head basketball coach. Brewer will fill the position left vacant by the legendary Arthur J. McAfee, Jr., who retired May 31st after thirty-eight years coaching and 517 career victories. "We are delighted that Coach Brewer will be our head coach," Athletic Director Andre Pattillo said. "Grady is a super role model for our students and his presence has had a positive impact on our athletic program and institution." Before accepting this position Coach Brewer, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, had been Coach McAfee's assistant head coach for fourteen seasons. "I have been waiting for this moment for a while. I am excited to have the opportunity to be the Head Coach here at Morehouse College," said Brewer. "I envision the Maroon Tigers being very competitive. I look forward to the challenge of getting Morehouse back into post season action." Coach Brewer and his wife, the former Lisa Middleton from Detroit, Michigan, have two sons Xavier (4 mos.) and Ryan (12).
