| Morgan State to meet Bethune-Cookman in The BahamasMay 29, 2000The Morgan State University football team will travel to the tropics this fall to take on the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman College in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match up. The Bears and Wildcats will meet under the lights on Saturday, September 30, 2000 at Thomas Robinson Stadium at 7:00PM in Nassau. Bahamas. This game will be the first MEAC contest ever played outside the continental United States and marks the first time Morgan State has ventured outside the U.S. for a football game in 24 years. Morgan State and Grambling became the first college teams to play a football game in Japan when they met in the first-ever Pioneer Bowl at Korakuen Stadium in Tokyo on September 24, 1976. The game is being promoted by Carlos Mackey a Bahamas native. Mackey says that football fans "are already buzzing about the return on college football to the island." It's been almost a decade since the last time college football was played in the Bahamnas. "This is not only a chance for those on the island to enjoy a great game, but it also gives alumni from both schools an opportunity to savior a weekend in one of the most beautiful spots on the planet," said Mackey. The Bahamas trip is part of a "road warrior" schedule for Morgan State. The Bears will be unable to play any games on campus due to the renovation of Hughes Stadium. Renovations won't be completed until April, 2001 forcing Morgan administrators to schedule every game except homecoming, outside of Baltimore.MSU will meet Savannah State at PSINet Stadium in downtown Baltimore for homecoming on October 14. It's only other "home" game will be against Hampton, November 18 in Bowie, MD. Morgan State Football Schedule
