| Greg Jackson Leaves NCCU Basketball Job to coach at Delaware StateMay 17, 2000DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University head men'sbasketball coach Greg Jackson announced his resignation Wednesday after 15seasons with the Eagle basketball program, including the last nine as head coach. Jackson also reported that he will be accepting the position of head men'sbasketball coach at Delaware State, a member of the NCAA Division IMid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). "I am not leaving because of anything that has happened here at North CarolinaCentral," Jackson said. "At this stage in my life, I feel I am ready for themove to Division I." In nine seasons as head coach at NCCU, Jackson never suffered a losingcampaign. His overall record of 163-77 (.679) places Jackson third on NCCU'sall-time coaching victories list behind Floyd Brown (251-194, 18 years) andJohn McLendon (239-68, 12 years). "Greg has done a lot to improve our basketball program and athletics ingeneral," said NCCU Chancellor Julius L. Chambers. "He is a person ofintegrity and has done a lot of work with our students in promoting honestyand character and a great athletic program. I am sure he will carry that samekind of commitment and program to Delaware State." "We very much hate to lose Greg and we wish him the best of luck in his newposition," Chambers added.
