NCCU's Lawson Appointed to NCAA Track Committee

DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University head men's and women's track& field coach Michael Lawson has been selected as a member of the NCAADivision II Men's and Women's Track & Field Committee.

As a member of the committee, Lawson will assist in the development ofpolicies and procedures governing the administration and conduct of the NCAADivision II Men's and Women's Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships.Lawson, whose appointment by the Division II Management Council and PresidentsCouncil is effective through Sept. 1, 2003, fills the vacancy left by SaintAugustine's College head track & field coach George Williams.

"It is an honor to follow in the footsteps of George Williams, who coached meat Saint Augustine's," said Lawson, now in his 10th year at NCCU. "This isanother stepping stone for me to get into the sports management side of track& field."

Lawson is no stranger to national championship-type events. He worked with the1994 Pan-Africa/USA International Meet and served on the 1996 AtlantaOrganizing Committee for the Olympic Games. As an athlete, he was a U.S.Olympic qualifier and All-American track & field student-athlete at St. Augustine's.Lawson coached at Durham High School and Duke University before joining NCCUin 1989.
