| Former UMES Track Star to Compete in 2000 Olympic GamesJune 19, 2000PRINCESS ANNE, MD-Former University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) track star Peter Fredericks will compete in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games to be held in Sydney, Australia in September. Fredericks will represent his native country of Trinidad in three events, the 200-meter dash, the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay. Fredericks ran for UMES from 1996-98. During that time the team won three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships (Cross-Country, back-to-back Indoor Track). Since he started competing, he has always had his eye set on competing in the Olympics. "To make the Olympic Team was a goal I set for myself and I'm just glad I was able to accomplish it" said Fredericks. "I still would like to be able to compete in the 400 meters at the Olympics. That's one thing I will try to accomplish while competing this summer." Fredericks continued, "My next big goal is to go to the Olympics and try to win a medal." The Summer Olympic Games will be held from September 15-October 1, 2000 in Sydney.
