| Virginia State Alum Named Top Financial Officer at USOCJune 29, 2000COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The United States Olympic Committee announced today that it has hired one of America's leading corporate executives and a graduate of Virginia State to direct its financial division. Early Reese has been named Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer for the U.S. Olympic Committee, and will assume his duties at the U.S. Olympic Complex located in Colorado Springs, Colo., beginning July 5. With the appointment, Reese becomes the highest ranking African-American in the Olympic Movement.
"When I reviewed Early Reese's credentials and saw the degree of responsibility he has shouldered, his extensive background in the financial industry and the accomplishments in his career, there was no doubt in my mind that he would be an excellent choice as USOC Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer," said Norm Blake, USOC Chief Executive Officer. "He has a wealth of financial experience with Phillip Morris, Price Waterhouse and a variety of nonprofit organizations, and I'm confident that he will bring new vision to the United States Olympic Committee." "I consider it an honor and privilege to have been selected as a member of the USOC Management Team and to serve all American athletes who have dedicated themselves to participate in Olympic competition," Reese said. Reese joins the USOC after a 21-year career with Phillip Morris. Over the past three years, he was an Assistant Controller for Phillip Morris, beginning in the Sales Division, and later moving to the Marketing Accounting and Reporting Division. Reese received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Virginia State University and his MBA from the College of William & Mary. He is also a Certified Public Accountant. Reese and his wife Elaine have three sons, Brian, James and Thomas, and one daughter, Sheryl.
