Clark to serve as interim AD at Fort Valley State

Fort Valley State University Executive Vice President Daniel K. Wims announced the appointment of an interim athletics director Thursday. Head football coach Deondri Clark has been named to the post.

Effective Jan. 15, his duties will expand to include the administration of all campus athletic departments, fundraising, and the oversight of NCAA compliance issues.

"I'd like to develop a plan to secure endowed scholarships for the athletic department which helps our overall fiscal plan," Clark said. "We can use the endowment to recruit athletes, provide internships, tuition assistance and assist coaches with the resources needed to build a premier sports program."

Clark joined the FVSU family six months ago. Prior to that, he was head football coach at Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C. He led the Bears to their best season ever earning the CIAA Championship. "My goal is to enhance the college experience of all FVSU athletes," Clark added. "I want to ensure their success, not only in sports but in life."

According to Wims, a national search for a permanent director will be conducted in the coming months.

The vacancy in the athletic department was created when former Athletic Director Gwendolyn Reeves agreed, at President Larry E. Rivers' request, to assume a new role as director of the FVSU Health and Physical Education Complex.

Clark received a Master of Arts Degree in Sports Administration from Central Michigan University and the Bachelor of Science Degree from Florida State University. He is married and the proud father of two boys.
