NSU’s Wally, Noble and Estep, FAMU’s Hepburn and Scott, Howard’s Alston Earn Top Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Chris Wally of Norfolk State was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Brandon Hepburn of Florida A&M was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Cameron Alston of Howard was selected as the Rookie of the Week while Kendal Noble of Norfolk State was named Offensive Lineman of the Week.  Ryan Estep of Norfolk State and Trevor Scott of Florida A&M were named Co-Special Teams Player’s of the Week.

Walley (QB, 6-2, 200, r-Jr., Tallahassee, Fla.) set a school single-game record for completion percentages (90.9%) as he connected on 20-of-22 passes (90.9%) for 305 yards in the Spartans’ 37-25 victory over Morgan State.  He also rushed four times for 23 yards.

Hepburn (LB, 6-4, 235, So., Pomona, N.Y.) recorded a season-high six tackles with four solo including 0.5 for a loss of one yard.  He posted one quarterback hurry and picked off two passes, collecting over 73 return yards in the Rattlers’ 22-19 overtime victory over North Carolina A&T.

Alston (DB, 6-0, 190, Fr., North Augusta, S.C.) tallied nine tackles, with 0.5 tackles for a loss of one yard.  He also recovered a fumble and returned a blocked field goal 37-yards to post the first touchdown of his collegiate career.

Noble (LT, 6-4, 290, r-Jr., Rocky Mount, N.C.) anchored the Spartans’ offensive line that accounted for 453 yards of total offense, no sacks, and 37 points over Morgan State.  He graded out at 90-percent of his assignments and recorded four pancake blocks.

Estep (K, 5-10, 165, r-Jr., Chesapeake, Va.) kicked a career-high three field goals from 33, 37 and 45 yards and finished 4-for-4 on extra points, giving him a career-high 13 points.

Scott (PK, 6-3, 225, Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) connected on three field goals from 46, 29 and 24 yards as he aided the Rattlers to a 22-19 overtime victory over North Carolina A&T.  He also completed 2-of-2 PATs in the win.

Other Top Performers

Olusegon Ayanbiola (DSU) collected a career-high eight tackles, four solo, with 4.5 for a loss of 28 yards and 3.5 sacks for a 25 yard loss in the Hornets’ win over North Carolina Central.

David Brown (MSU) rushed 16 times for 128 yards in the Bears’ loss to Norfolk State.

David Erby (SCSU) tallied nine tackles, seven solo, with two for a loss of two yards.  He also broke up one pass.

Anthony Glaud (DSU) completed 16-of-20 passes for 224 yards with one touchdown passing in the Hornets’ 29-7 victory over N.C. Central.  He also carried the ball 11 times for 40 yards with a rushing TD.

Corwin Hammond (NSU) recorded a game-high 13 tackles with six solo in the Spartans’ victory over Morgan State.

Josh Harrison (SCSU) anchored the S.C. State offensive line with six pancake blocks and graded out at 91-percent on his assignments as the Bulldogs recorded 390 total offensive yards against Howard.

Malcolm Long (SCSU) became the Bulldogs’ all-time total offensive leader after completed 20-of-29 passes for 275 yards with two touchdowns in S.C. State’s win over Howard.

Kurt Mangum (HOW) recorded 13 tackles, six solo, with 3.0 for a loss of 10 yards and one sack for an eight-yard loss in Howard’s loss to South Carolina State.

Christopher Sands (FAMU) graded out at 96-percent of his assignments as he helped the Rattlers to 260 yards of total offense.  He also recorded three pancake blocks.

Kemar Scarlett (MSU) connected on 4-of-5 field goals including 24, 39, 43 and a 47-yarder in the Bears’ loss to Norfolk State.

Philip Sylvester (FAMU) rushed for 110 yards on 32 carries with one touchdown in the Rattlers’ 22-19 overtime win over North Carolina A&T.

Delonte Williams (MSU) completed 14-of-29 passes for 142 yards including a touchdown and collected 30 yards on 14 carries in the Bears loss to Norfolk State.
