HOUSTON-Yolanda Wells-Broughton has resigned as head women's basketball coach at Texas Southern University.Texas Southern University

“I would like to thank President Dr. (John) Rudley and Dr. (Charles) McClelland for the opportunity to coach at Texas Southern University.  The experiences that I have had as a head coach at Texas Southern have forever enriched my life.  I coached some remarkable young women who are poised to do great things both on and off the court.  I can assure you that I ran a clean program and we did things the right way.  The foundation has been laid for a successful future.  It has been my honor to serve and I wish the Texas Southern family the best for years to come.”

In Broughton’s four seasons with the Lady Tigers, her overall record was 33-88.  Her teams have made the SWAC Championship Tournament three of her four years and they have been in the semi-finals twice (2010 & 2012). Last season's team finished 5-26. Broughton also produced the program’s first All-SWAC players since 2000.

“I want to sincerely thank coach Broughton for her years of dedication to Texas Southern,” said Texas Southern Athletics Director Dr. Charles McClelland.  “She has truly laid a solid foundation for the program.  I am extremely appreciative for her dedication and hard work, and I will forever be grateful and supportive of her future endeavors.”
