2012 SIAC Baseball All-Conference Teams announced

ATLANTA—The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has  announced the 2012 SIAC Baseball All-Conference Team as voted by the SIAC Baseball Coaches Association. This year’s team is led by 2012 SIAC Player of the Year Jarius Brown of Stillman College.Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
 
Brown, a native of Atlanta, GA, led the SIAC with 52 runs batted in during the regular season while finishing with 62 hits and seven home runs, both which ranked second in the SIAC. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior first baseman was also third in the conference with a .428 batting average and 46 runs scored. Byrd also finished with a .624 slugging percentage and a .522 on-base percentage, ranking fourth in the SIAC in both categories, while totaling 15 stolen bases and a .993 fielding percentage.
 
Miles College first baseman Kelend Smith was named SIAC Freshman of the Year. In 2012, Smith led all SIAC freshmen with six home runs and 41 run batted in which ranked third and fifth, respectively, among all SIAC batters. The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder from Pleasant Grove, AL also had a .359 batting average and a .590 slugging percentage in his first season with the Golden Bears.
 
Michael Jordan of Benedict College was named SIAC Utility Player of the Year. Jordan recorded 36 hits, 22 RBIs, and a .371 batting average during the regular season while also recording three wins with 53 strikeouts as a pitcher for the Tigers. The 5-foot-6 senior from Miami, FL also currently leads the nation in both stolen bases with 64 and stolen bases per game with 1.83.
 
Stillman College senior Josh Cagle was named SIAC Starting Pitcher of the Year while teammate Tyler Vails was named SIAC Relief Pitcher of the Year. Cagle, a native of Brookwood, AL, was tied for third in the SIAC with six wins while leading the conference with 68 strikeouts and a 3.65 earned run average. Vails, a sophomore from Gordo, AL, tied for the league lead with seven wins and was second in the SIAC with 16 games in relief while recording a 4.05 ERA and 44 strikeouts.
 
Stillman College Head Coach Donny Crawford was named SIAC Coach of the Year. In his sixth season, Crawford led the Tigers to an undefeated regular season in the SIAC with a record of 21-0, 24-16 overall, to capture the 2012 SIAC Western Division title.
