Two Southwestern Athletic Conference athletic administrators are leaving for new positions. Kevin Manns has left Southern University to become Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at Winston-Salem State University.
SWAC Assistant Commissioner for Championships, Shelley Davis, has been named Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Howard University. Both are expected to assume their new positions after the July 4th holiday. A native of West Virginia and a former cornerback at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., Manns previously served as SID at Winston-Salem State from 1993-96, then spent four years at Alabama State from 1996-2000. From there, he moved to Southern where he had been SID for the past 11 years. Manns had been named SWAC sports information director of the year for two of the past three years. "He's going to take us to the next level because he's very experienced at what he does," WSSU AD Bill Hayes told the Winston-Salem Journal. "He did some fantastic work at Southern." Davis had been in the SWAC office since July, 2010. Prior to joining the SWAC, she served as the Director of Education and Professional Development at the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA). Davis graduated with honors from North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in 1998. She is the first female graduate of NCCU (the first and only HBCU to have an accredited Athletic Training Education program) to become a Certified Athletic Trainer. Her career includes stints at Virginia Union as Head Athletics Trainer and North Carolina A&T as Assistant Athletic Director for Student Services. "The conference office thanks Shelley for her hard work and dedication to the SWAC," said Commissioner Duer Sharp. We wish her success as she heads to Howard University." |
