DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University alumnus and certified golf teaching professional David Hinton III has been named the university’s new men’s golf head coach. He succeeds Paul Perry who passed away unexpectedly in May. Hinton
“I am excited about the opportunity to hire a quality individual and alumnus of NCCU to continue growing our men's golf program,” said NCCU Director of Athletics Dr. Ingrid Wicker-McCree. “Coach Hinton has a solid golf background and his passion for teaching youth the values, skills and discipline that golf offers will produce winners on and off the golf course.”
A native of Raleigh, N.C., Hinton is a Certified Golf Teaching Professional by the United States Golf Teachers Federation and a Certified Golf Instructor and Coach with The First Tee Organization. He is also a 1991 graduate of NCCU, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration. For the past seven years, Hinton has worked as a Golf Coach and the Community Outreach Coordinator with The First Tee of the Triangle (N.C.). During that time he also served as the Program Director, Golf Swing Instructor and Coach at Next Level Sports Management Company in Raleigh, N.C., and as the Junior Golf Program Director with Saint Augustine’s College at Meadowbrook Country Club in Garner, N.C.
During the 2011-12 season, Hinton was the head golf coach at Southeast Raleigh High School.
