[Raleigh, NC] - Shaw University cracked the top ten in this week's National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II poll, coming in at ninth. This is the highest ranking in the history of the men's basketball program at Shaw. Last week the Bears were 12th in the poll. The program's previous high ranking was in 2002-2003 when they were tenth in the first poll of the season. Last week, the Bears handily defeated Winston-Salem State and Johnson C. Smith to raise their record to 21-2 and continue what is now a 17-game winning streak. Shaw is 13-0 in the CIAA and 7-0 in the Southern Division. With their win over Johnson C. Smith last night, the Bears clinched the division title. Bellarmine continues atop the poll this week and West Liberty - who knocked Shaw out of last year's NCAA Tournament - remains at number two. CIAA member Bowie State is ranked 19th this week and HBCU independent District of Columbia enters at #22.
