Saint Paul's broke into the scoring column with 3 seconds remaining in the first half on a one yard run by Todd Shelton. McCarthy's successful PAT gave the Tigers a 7-0 halftime lead.
After being shut out in the game's first three quarters, LU tied the game at 7-7 three minutes into the fourth quarter on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Thomas to Matthew Coston.
Minutes later, Gerald Foster sent the near-capacity crowd into a frenzy by returning an interception 53 yards for a touchdown, giving LU a 13-7 edge with 8:41 to go.
Saint Paul's rallied for the tying score when Albert Tinsley rushed 6 yards for a touchdown with 5:55 remaining in the game. Following the TD, the Tigers were called for unsportsmanlike conduct. With SPC bumped back 15 additional yards, LU was able to clock the PAT to keep the score tied at 13-13.
Lincoln made one final attempt to win the game in regulation. With 1:30 to go, Domonic Wright lined up a 35-yarder for the team's first field goal attempt of the season only to see it blocked by SPC's Dominic Tolson.
In the extra session, Saint Paul's won the toss and elected to go on defense.
On the first play of the overtime period, Christian Pride grabbed his second interception of the day, picking off a Steven Torres pass to stop the Lions. Although Lincoln held the Tigers to -2 yards on three plays, McCarthy's field goal split the uprights easily, ending the game.
The Saint Paul's will close out their season November 6 at 1 p.m. in South Hill against Virginia State University.
Lincoln concludes 2010 with Senior Day next Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Elizabeth City State.
