Harvey comes to B-CU after spending the past four years as an Assistant Athletic Communications Director at the University of Miami. While at UMiami, Harvey served as the primary (and secondary) contact for a variety of sports. Most recently, he was the primary contact for the nationally-ranked Hurricanes baseball team, in addition to the Canes volleyball team which reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2011 - finishing the season ranked in the Top 30 nationally.
He also spent time as the secondary contact for the Hurricanes football team, in addition to covering two national champion divers for the swimming & diving program - Brittany Viola (2008, '11) and Reuben Ross (2008), both 2012 Summer Olympians. In 2009 and '10, he covered the top-10 ranked women's tennis team which advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament each year, as well as having four-time All-America performer Laura Vallverdu progress to the NCAA Singles championship match, finishing as the runner-up in 2009.
Harvey is no stranger to the B-CU family. Prior to his stint at UMiami, he served three years as the Director of Sports Information at Bethune-Cookman from 2005-08. He was responsible for covering all 17 varsity sports for the Wildcats, in addition to handling licensing, marketing, tailgating and vending, as well as moving the Wildcats forward with a new athletics website which has seen prosperous growth since its inception in 2007.
"Over the past four years, the industry has changed significantly and having someone like Bryan Harvey to rejoin us after working at the highest level of college athletics is a huge advantage for us," said Lynn W. Thompson, Director of Athletics. "Bryan did outstanding work during his initial stint here, and we are excited about the new ideas that he will bring back to us from his experiences in other arenas. Having him back with us is like having a younger brother to come back home."
At B-CU, Harvey's duties will include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Office of Media Relations which employs one full-time and one part-time assistant. He will also handle the athletic department's social media blitz to alumni/fans/students through a number of social media platforms, in addition to serving as the primary contact for football, as well as sports to be determined at a later time.
"It is an honor and a privilege to return as Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at Bethune-Cookman University," said Harvey. "I would like to thank Chris Freet and Mark Pray for preparing me at the University of Miami for this moment to be an administrator. More importantly, I'd like to thank Lynn Thompson for believing in me to fill this position and return to a place I have always considered home."
