Isaac Sugut's second-place finish paced the Bison, who finished with ascore of 39 and placed four runners in the top 10 to easily defeat runner upand defending champion Hampton by 64 points.
Bethune-Cookman's Zoltan Lenhardt, the meet's outstanding performer,overcame the rainy conditions to win individual honors, covering theeight-kilometer course in a conference-record 26:38. His time broke the markof 27:37 set by Coppin State's Courtney Bennett in 1991.
Maryland Eastern Shore finished third, while Coppin State was fifth andMorgan State seventh.
In the women's race, eighth-place finisher Monica Green was the firstrunner across the line for the Florida A&M, whose top five finished within 30seconds of each other.
The Rattlerettes scored 58 points to beat second-place Bethune Cookman by14.
Bethune's Nicole Carty, who won the 1995 individual title, reclaimed thehonor after placing second a year ago. Named as the women's outstandingperformer, Carty finished the five kilometers in 19:23 to beat teammate CathyFigueroa by 41 seconds.
The Lady Wildcats took three of the top four spots, but B-CC's fifthrunner managed only a 44th-place finish to drive up Bethune's total.
Defending champion Coppin State, led by 11th-place finisher Isis Green,was sixth, while UMES and Morgan State finished seventh and ninth,respectively.
Howard's William Moultrie was chosen as the men's outstanding coach, andKimberli Williams of Florida A&M was the women's outstanding coach.
