The crowd also witnessed what may be Carl Lewis' final appearance at the TSU Relays as his Santa Monica Track Club won their 4X100 meter relay in a time of 39.57. The top performance by a SWAC athlete was put in by Southern's Kevin Jefferson, who qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championships in the 400 meters. He ran a meet-best time of 46.16 in the event.
