With the announcement of ESPN and ESPN2's fall football schedule, comes the official confirmation of the kickoff time for this year's Heritage Bowl. The game is scheduled for Saturday, December 27 at 2:30 p.m. in Atlanta's Georgia Dome.No other game involving black college teams made the "The Sports Network" listing although several dates were left open.
Heritage Bowl executive director Craig Cason had announced during SWAC spring meetings that Host Communications, promoters of this year's contest, specifically set a Saturday date to help boost attendance. He indicated that his company was stepping up its efforts to increase exposure for the game.
In an interview with media during halftime of last year's Heritage Bowl, SWAC commissioner James Frank indicated that television exposure was a significant part of the sponsorship package. He indicated the previous dates were directly related to the availability of television time.
The Heritage Bowl was one of two games on ESPN's schedule for December 27. The other was the Copper Bowl later that night.
