
Montgomery, AL - Alabama State University sports information director, Kevin Manns, was honored Friday night with the Birmingham Grid Forecasters "Excel '97" Award. The award, given during the organization's 47th annual All-Sports Banquet, recognized Manns for his contributions to the stimulation and advancement of wholesome recreation and athletics for 1997.
"I would like to thank my parents for always being in my corner", said Manns. "I would also like to thank the 300 plus athletes that grace the fields, courts, tracks, courses and bowling alleys, making it a joy to do what I do."
Manns, 30, is responsible for public relations for 17 varsity sports at Alabama State. The Beckley. WV native is winding up his first year at the university following a successful stint as sports information director at Winston-Salem (NC) State University. In 1995, he was honored as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Sports Information Director of the Year.
"Dr. W. Curtis Williams, my athletic director, has given me an opportunity to apply my skills at the division I level, and that's something that I'm extremely grateful for," Manns stated. "I hope, in the future, that I continue to grow as a person and SID."
