Black College Stars make NFL Practice Squads

Four former black college stars survived training camp to claim spots onNFL practice squads.

1996 SWAC Defensive Player of the Year, Sean Woodson of Jackson State,was signed to the Buffalo Bills practice sqaud. Woodson was taken in thtefifth round of last April's draft.

Hampton wide receiver Mike Jenkins, signed as a free agent by Cincinnatiafter an outstanding career with the Pirates, was signed to the practicesquad of the Bengals.

Central State wide receiver Alonzo Johnson, the Black College Sports PageIndependent College Player of the Year in 1996, was named to the practicesquad of the New York Jets. Johnson had 46 receptions for 913 yards and11 TDs for the Marauders last season.

Ray Nealy, a highly regarded rookie free agent from Arkansas Pine Bluffearlier cut by Miami, was re-signed to the Dolphins' practice squad.

Also veteran cornerback Robert Massey, an eight-year veteran and formerCIAA standout at North Carolina Central was signed by the New York Giantsafter his release Wednesday by Jacksonville.
