AMERICAN URBAN RADIO NETWORKS ANNOUNCES
1996 BLACK COLLEGE FOOTBALL ALL-AMERICA TEAM


Pittsburgh, PA, January 7, 1997- The SBN Sports Network, a division of American Urban Radio Networks (AURN), named its 1996 Black College football All-America Football Team today. Florida A&M University leads the way with four players selected.

Howard University quarterback Ted White is the Offensive Player of the Year. Hampton University linebacker Darrell Flythe is the Defensive Player of the Year. Florida A&M coach Billy Joe was named Coach of the Year. In total, 24 players were named to the team. Four players, Raleigh Roundtree, Demetrius Billie, Carlos Leach and Telley Priester, made the team for the second consecutive year.

Offensive Player of the Year: Ted White, Howard University. The sophomore signal caller led NCAA Division I -AA in passing efficiency. White set an MEAC record with 36 touchdown passes. He completed 60 per cent of his passes for 2,812 yards.

Defensive Player of the Year : Darrell Flythe, Hampton University. The senior linebacker set an MEAC record with 169 tackles. He intercepted two passes and returned one for a touchdown.

Coach of the Year: Billy Joe, Florida A&M. Coach Joe's Rattlers went 7-0 in the MEAC and 9-3 overall. Florida A&M finished one point behind Howard in voting for the Black College Football National Championship.

The 1996 SBN Sports Black College All-America Team will be honored at a gala banquet Saturday, March 1, 1997 at the Ritz-Carlton in Atlanta, GA. During the past 23 years, over 1.2 million dollars in scholarships have been donated to black colleges and universities through the SBN Sports Black College All-American Awards Banquet.

AURN is the only African-American owned radio network in the United States with offices and bureaus in New York, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Washington, DC and Los Angeles.
