
Atlanta, Georgia--- Morehouse College and Albany State University captured the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Sports Awards for the 1997-98 season in men and women competition, respectively.
Morehouse, which tallied 95 points in the conference competition, won titles in basketball (West Region), track & field, tennis and cross country. The Maroon Tigers finished second in the annual SIAC post-season basketball tournament. Albany State, which finished second with 77.5 points, won titles in football along with a regional title in basketball during the regular season. Fort Valley State, winner of the 1998 SIAC Basketball Tournament, finished third with 57.5 points . Clark Atlanta (41 points), Kentucky State (38.5 points), Paine (36.5 points), Savannah State (34 points), LeMoyne-Owen (29.5 points), Morris Brown (25 points), Miles (16.5 points) and Tuskegee (16 points) rounded out the scoring.
In women's competition, Albany State won the SIAC Basketball Tournament and finished second in volleyball, cross country, track & field and basketball (East Region) en route to winning the title with 80 points. Kentucky State, the 1996-97 winner, finished second with 62.5 points, The Lady Thorobreds won titles in volleyball and basketball (West Region). Clark Atlanta finished third with 60 points, followed by Fort Valley State (46 points), Morris Brown (37 points), Savannah State (32 points), LeMoyne-Owen (25), Paine (22.5 points), Miles (1 9 points) and Tuskegee (I 8 points).
A scoring system of 20, 15, 10, 5, 4, 3. 2 and 1 is used to determine All-Sports standings for the SIAC 12-member institutions.
